Some folks could never understand
that I like this walnut chest,
The love seat and the rocker
facing windows to the west.
Here in the fragments of the day
I often read and sew
And let my eyes go down the lane
as in long ago.
And though it must seem strange to those
who choose the brave and new,
I'll take old and cherished
and live my lifetime through
At home with every dent and scratch,
each odd ungainly part,
For these loving strands of family years
are wrapped around my heart.
